Ministry of the Interior - Referendum to reduce the size of the state parliament rejected
The Ministry of the Interior does not want to allow the FDP's petition to reduce the size of the state parliament. The Liberals wanted to reduce the number of constituencies in the south-west by almost half. The ministry considers the proposal to be unconstitutional, as the Deutsche Presse-Agentur learned on Monday. In their own words, the Liberals wanted to use the referendum to prevent the parliament from becoming bloated. The FDP parliamentary group had previously failed with a corresponding bill.

The proposed referendum aimed to reduce the size of the Baden-Württemberg state parliament, specifically in Stuttgart, as suggested by the FDP parties. The referendum was aimed at preventing the parliament from becoming excessively large. Unfortunately, the Ministry of the Interior in Germany has rejected the FDP's petition to carry out this referendum. Despite the FDP's previous attempt to pass a related bill in the State parliament, which failed, they still wanted to pursue this matter through a referendum.
