Bundesliga - Referee Siebert counters BVB criticism: "Incomprehensible"
Referee Daniel Siebert has described the harsh criticism of Dortmund soccer coach Edin Terzic over a missed penalty whistle in the Bundesliga top match at Bayer Leverkusen (1:1) as "incomprehensible". "From his point of view, I can understand that in this individual case. But you have to see the scene in the overall context of the game. If I don't give a penalty for Leverkusen in a similar situation between Can and Palacios, then of course I won't do the same on the other side," the Berlin player told Bild on Monday, referring to a similar controversial scene in the Dortmund penalty area. "That's why the coach's statements are incomprehensible to me," added Siebert.
Dortmund had appealed for a penalty after an alleged foul by Edmond Tapsoba in the 73rd minute of the match when the score was 1-0. "The contact on Adeyemi 's right thigh was so minimal that it did not cause the fall. So it wasn't a foul, but it wasn't a penalty-worthy foul either," said Siebert.
Siebert also believes that Terzic's accusation that fouls on Adeyemi have repeatedly not been punished since his swallow months ago is not justified: "Mr. Terzic cannot expect me to compensate for supposedly wrong decisions from other games. Every game starts from scratch. It wasn't enough for me to take a penalty on Sunday - and that was the only reason for my decision."
