Reese fights against "masculinity posturing": Feminine facets
Hertha professional Fabian Reese wants to break up the "toxic masculinity" in professional soccer. "I also try to show feminine facets. I want to show that masculinity doesn't depend on outward appearances or gestures. I want to be there for anyone who doesn't yet dare to do anything that goes against the supposed norm," said the winger from the Berlin second division club in an interview with Die Zeit.
The 26-year-old stands out from the often monotonous soccer industry with his painted fingernails and mullet hairstyle. Reese makes no secret of the fact that he is interested in fashion and takes care of his appearance. Reese wants to inspire and encourage other people to live the way they want.
"Allowing individuality should be the norm. It makes my heart beat faster when fans tell me that they dared to paint their nails for the first time because of me," said Hertha's crowd favorite and added: "My vision is simply that the footballer Fabian Reese is not only associated with goals and assists and good games."
Reese's great role model is David Beckham. "He brought metrosexuality into the world because he did skin care and styled hairstyles that didn't conform to the norm. He set trends and became the first soccer pop star," says Reese.
Fabian Reese, the Hertha BSC winger in Bundesliga 2, aims to challenge the conventional notion of masculinity in soccer, aligning with his idol David Beckham who brought metrosexuality into football. Reese regularly showcases his individuality through his painted fingernails and mullet hairstyle, even playing in the second division Bundesliga 2.
