Services - Reduced VAT rate demanded for hairdressers
The Magdeburg Chamber of Crafts is calling for a reduction in the VAT rate for hairdressing services from 19 to 7 percent. "Hairdressing businesses are significantly burdened by high operating costs, in particular rising energy and material prices, as well as increased wage costs," reads a resolution passed by the plenary assembly on Tuesday. "These factors are reducing profitability and jeopardizing the existence of many companies in the hairdressing trade." Due to inflation, customers are increasingly turning to cheaper alternatives such as products from drugstores and going to the hairdresser less often.
As of September 30, 957 hairdressing businesses were registered in the Magdeburg chamber district. These are currently training 122 apprentices and employ around 2000 people.
According to its own information, the Magdeburg Chamber of Crafts represents 11,300 craft businesses with around 63,000 employees. The plenary assembly is the supreme body and decision-maker of the Chamber of Skilled Crafts.
