The Official Government Statistical Agency - Reduced earnings in skilled trades across Saxony-Anhalt
In Saxony-Anhalt, sales for craft businesses took a 3.7% dip (unadjusted for inflation) in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, as per the State Statistical Office's announcement on Tuesday. The workforce in these businesses shrank too, seeing a 2% reduction. This signals the end of a prosperous growth era in the region.
The biggest chunk of sales, at 45%, is sourced from the construction sector. The leading player in this field witnessed a 7.4% decline during the early months of 2024, with a simultaneous 4% decrease in personnel. There were, however, some encouraging trends in other sectors. For instance, the automotive sector observed a 2.8% rise in sales. Similarly, the healthcare sector managed an impressive 4.7% sales uptick.
