Red Bull Munich out in the last 16 of the Champions League
Ice hockey champions EHC Red Bull Munich are the last German team to be eliminated in the last 16 of the Champions League. The Munich team lost the second leg at Swiss champions Genève-Servette HC 1:3 (1:0, 0:1, 0:2) on Wednesday evening. Bayern had won the first leg 3:2 at home. However, they were unable to capitalize on this advantage in the second game.
In front of 5527 spectators, coach Toni Söderholm's team held on to a 1-1 draw until the closing stages, which would have been enough to progress. But then Josh Jooris and Tanner Richard scored twice in the final period to decide the game in favor of the Swiss team. Andrew MacWilliam had given Munich the lead in the first period.
Before Munich, Adler Mannheim had already been eliminated in the round of 16 on Tuesday against the Rapperswil-Jona Lakers from Switzerland and ERC Ingolstadt against the Växjö Lakers from Sweden.
