Record number of registrations for the junior election for the state parliamentary elections in Thuringia

Simulation in schools - Record number of registrations for the junior election for the state parliamentary elections in Thuringia

In the application phase for the Schulproject "Junior election for the Landtag election 2024" in Thuringia, there is a record number of registrations. According to the Thuringian Ministry for Education, Youth and Sport, 207 general and vocational schools have already submitted their project registration.

Approximately 25,000 students and studenteses will simulate the Landtag elections at their schools beforehand. The number of participating schools has already far surpassed previous elections. In 2019, 172 schools took part, while in 2014 there were only 70.

Thuringia's Education Minister Helmut Holter (Die Linke) is pleased with the development: "The great response from schools to participate in the Junior election for the Landtag election 2024 and also already for the European election 2024 is an expression of cross-school democratic engagement throughout the entire Free State".

The results of the Junior election will be published on the evening of the 1st of September 2024. The nationwide project has been organized by the Kumulus e.V. (Berlin) since 1999 and has already reached over 5.6 million youths.
