Record number of overnight stays in Baden-Württemberg

The number of overnight stays in accommodation establishments in Baden-Württemberg has reached a record high. With 44.6 million overnight stays in the period from January to September 2023, the previous record of 44.2 million overnight stays from 2019 was exceeded, as announced by the State Statistical Office in Stuttgart on Tuesday. 17.6 million guests arrived at hotels, guesthouses and similar establishments in the first three quarters, less than in the same period in 2019 (17.8 million).

Compared to the same period last year, 2.4 million more guests were registered. The number of overnight stays also rose by 4.7 million (11.7 percent). The authority evaluates open accommodation establishments with ten or more beds or pitches.

The largest increase in overnight stays compared to the first nine months of the previous year was recorded in the Stuttgart region (20.9 percent) and in northern Baden-Württemberg (17.5 percent). The Federal Garden Show in Mannheim, for example, attracted many visitors.

The surging interest in tourism is evident in the statistics, as Baden-Württemberg's hospitality industry recorded a record 44.6 million overnight stays in 2023. During leisure time, tourists preferred to explore various establishments, contributing to the booming tourism sector and the overall growth of the industry.
