Bavarian Broadcasting - Record donations on Sternstunden Day

Almost 13 million euros were collected during the Bavarian Broadcasting Corporation's Sternstunden Day. This is the best result in the 30-year history of the charity campaign, BR reported on Saturday. Throughout the day on Friday, the station's programs reported on the aid projects for children in need and asked for donations.

In the evening, the "Sternstunden-Gala 2023" was broadcast live from the Frankenhalle in Nuremberg. Celebrities such as Uschi Glas, Bruno Jonas, Udo Wachtveitl, Michaela May, Hilde Gerg, Ludwig Prinz von Bayern, Magdalena Neuner, Erol Sander and Caro Matzko also answered the donation phones.

After raising 11.65 million euros on Sternstunden Day last year, 12.85 million euros were collected this year. In addition to the money already received in the previous months, almost 18.3 million euros were collected in 2023.

"The sensational result impressively shows that people trust Sternstunden and BR," said BR Director Katja Wildermuth on the results of the campaign day. "For 30 years, you can be sure that your money is really doing good and noticeably improving the lives of children in need, giving them a real perspective."

The initiator and chairman of the Sternstunden association, Thomas Jansing, added that it is "a day that has a lasting effect and motivates people to continue to support disadvantaged children in our society and around the world". The charity campaign, BR and other partners such as the Bavarian Savings Banks Association have been supporting sick, disabled and needy children since 1993. Since then, around 372 million euros have been donated, supporting more than 3800 aid projects.
