- Recognition of Distinction Conferred upon UKSH Chief Jens Scholz by Ukrainian Authorities
Jens Scholz, CEO of University Hospital Schleswig-Holstein (UKSH), received the Order of Saint Panteleimon. He was honored for providing medical aid to the Ukrainian folk and fostering the education and training of Ukrainian medical professionals since 2022, as stated by UKSH. This award is one of the highest distinctions in the Ukrainian healthcare sector, according to UKSH's announcement.
The award serves to acknowledge the contributions of all UKSH team members who have been aiding people in and from Ukraine and continue to do so, as further mentioned in the statement. The ceremony was attended by notable figures such as the Ukrainian General Consul, Iryna Tybinka, and Oksana Ulan, the chairwoman of the Ukrainian Medical Association in Germany, as per UKSH's report.
Scholz expressed his gratitude and appreciation for receiving the Order of Saint Panteleimon. He underscored, "Amid the atrocities of war, we aim to send a message of camaraderie and friendship." He extended his thanks to the employees, doctors, and nurses of UKSH, as well as the numerous individual donors who made the "UKSH aids Ukraine" initiative a success.
The campaign was launched by Scholz in 2022 and has since amassed donations totaling 7.4 million euros, which were sent to Ukraine. Furthermore, over 6,100 Ukrainian patients have been treated at both UKSH locations.
The Order of Saint Panteleimon has been presented since 2009 to individuals and organizations for commendable and altruistic actions in the healthcare sector.
The recognition of Scholz's efforts extends beyond just him, as the award also celebrates the dedication of the entire UKSH team in aiding people from Ukraine. The 'Awards and honours' bestowed upon Scholz and UKSH also highlight their significant contributions in fostering the education and training of Ukrainian medical professionals.
