Bacteria in sausage - Recall at Rewe: Salmonella found in Italian salami
Due to a possible Salmonella contamination, Italian Salami brand "Rewe Feine Welt" with the name "Salame Felino" in the 80-gram packaging, has been recalled. Only the product with the minimum shelf life date between 14.07.2024 and inclusive 21.07.2024 is affected, announced Gabel Vertriebsgesellschaft from Lünen on Thursday.
Recall after detection in routine control
During a routine quality control, Salmonella was detected in the product. A health risk cannot be excluded. Anyone who has purchased the corresponding product can return it without a cash register receipt and get their money back.
A Salmonella infection manifests itself within a few days after infection with diarrhea, abdominal pain, occasional vomiting, and mild fever. In particular, infants, young children, seniors, and people with weakened immune systems can develop severe disease courses.

Despite the recall campaign for the "Rewe Feine Welt" Salami, the economic impact on Germany's sausage industry remains unclear. The recall affects Rewe's Italian Salami brand "Salame Felino" with a minimum shelf life date between July 14, 2024, and July 21, 2024. This follows a detection of Salmonella during a routine control by Gabel Vertriebsgesellschaft.
The latest recall of the "Salame Felino" sausages adds to concerns about food safety akin to the previous incident involving chicken products in Germany.
Despite the recall, it is essential for consumers to stay vigilant about their food intake, especially with Salmonella-susceptible groups like infants, young children, seniors, and individuals with weakened immune systems.
