Music - Real: Streaming success after documentary
More than 20 years after their split, the former teen band Echt is celebrating unexpected success on streaming services. The official GfK Entertainment charts recorded a 147% increase in streaming figures for Echt songs within a week. The reason for this is presumably the three-part documentary "ECHT - Unsere Jugend", which has been available in the ARD media library since November 23.
"Echt has been streamed more than twice as often as before since the documentary was broadcast," the company explained to the German Press Agency. This is a surprisingly strong increase.
"Of course, I'm really happy when people listen to the music again or maybe even discover it," former frontman Kim Frank (41) told dpa on the sidelines of the "1Live-Krone" in Bielefeld. "The most important thing: I'm still proud of the music. I think it has aged well. I like listening to it myself."
According to GfK, the top three streamed real songs are currently: "Du trägst keine Liebe in dir", "Weinst du" and "Junimond".
Despite their current success, the five former musicians, who formed as a school band and celebrated their greatest successes from the mid-1990s, are not currently thinking about a comeback. "We each have our own lives with jobs and kids. That would just cause too much disruption. But we're still young, we'll see," said Frank meaningfully.
