RCD Mallorca's sporting director, Pablo Ortells, denied media reports about alleged negotiations to sign Mats Hummels. "There's absolutely nothing to it," Ortells assured during the presentation of new coach Jagoba Arrasate in Palma on Tuesday.

However, Ortells acknowledged that an unclear offer had been made. "I received a call from someone I don't even know, from whom I'm not sure if it was the player's agent, and a few hours later, the news was already in the media," the sporting director laughed.

Apart from Spanish media, Sky TV reported on Monday about supposed contacts between RCD Mallorca and the 2014 World Cup winner. Some media claimed the transfer was almost complete, with only details missing, as Hummels owns a property on the Mediterranean island.

Rom? Milan? Or Saudi Arabia?

Since his departure from Borussia Dortmund, much has been speculated about the future of the 35-year-old center-back. In Italy, it was reported that Hummels would join AS Roma in the Serie A and sign a two-year contract with an option for an additional season. However, there were also rumors of interest from AC Milan and Saudi Arabia.

On Friday, Borussia Dortmund announced that they would not extend Hummels' contract, which was set to expire. The player, who was not nominated by Germany's national team coach Julian Nagelsmann for the European Championship, had won two German titles with Dortmund. In his last game for Dortmund, they lost the Champions League final to Real Madrid 0:2.
