- RB striker Sesko: Zlatan Ibrahimovic is my idol
Striker Benjamin Sesko stays loyal to Bundesliga side RB Leipzig, even though his idol Zlatan Ibrahimovic has shown interest. "He's my big idol," the 21-year-old told 'Sport Bild' about the Swedish former star striker, who now serves as an advisor to AC Milan. However, there's been no call yet. "So I'm a bit jealous of my agent, as they've had contact," Sesko said.
His decision, announced in June, to extend his contract in Leipzig by a year until 2029 was well-considered: "It'll do me good to continue growing in Leipzig. It wouldn't have been smart to leave after just one year," the striker said. "I want to keep gaining experience at a very high level at RB Leipzig, and I'll need a lot of experience to get where I want to go."
Strong second half: "That was a process"
A tempting career goal is the Premier League. However, the efforts of FC Arsenal to sign Sesko were unsuccessful. "In the end, you have to see when I'm ready for what," said the Slovenian national player, who wants to start in the Bundesliga first. "We have good conditions to play at the top. Compared to all the top teams, we have the least pressure. This year, we want to surprise everyone, but we need to play more consistently."
Consistency has also been Sesko's own goal. He only managed to score most of his goals in the second half of the season for RB and improved his efficiency. "That was a process. I grew as a person and needed some time to gain experience in this new and very strong league. My legs and my head needed time," Sesko said, who has mentally strengthened himself with books, podcasts, and the team psychologist. "Just talking about something other than football helps me."
Despite Zlatan Ibrahimovic's interest in his career, Swede-born striker Benjamin Sesko chose to extend his contract with RB Leipzig. Given the high level of competition in the Bundesliga, Sesko believes it's crucial to gain more experience before considering a move to England's Premier League.
