Champions League - RB sporting director Schröder: "Don't be awestruck"
Sporting director Rouven Schröder believes RB Leipzig can spring a surprise against Real Madrid. "As an ambitious opponent, we will make life difficult for them and not be awestruck," said the 48-year-old after the draw for the last 16 of the Champions League. "Real Madrid are the favorites. The home game has already shown that we can be ambitious and can also hurt them. The roles are clearly assigned. It will be an absolute highlight."
Leipzig met Real in the group stage last year. After a 2-0 defeat in Madrid, they came out on top 3-2 at home. "Real Madrid is one of the biggest clubs in the world. So many great players have played in the white jersey. They have another incredible squad and the stadium is ready," said Schröder.
The first legs will take place on February 13/14/20/21, the second legs on March 5/6/12/13. As runners-up in the group, Leipzig will first play at home. The exact dates of RB's matches are still to be determined by UEFA.
