RB Leipzig's women miss out on a surprise in the cup
RB Leipzig's women's soccer team missed out on a surprise in the round of 16 of the DFB Cup and a place in the last eight. The Bundesliga promotion contenders lost 3-0 (0-1) at favored league rivals TSG 1899 Hoffenheim on Sunday. At the Dietmar Hopp Stadium, Jill Janssens put the hosts ahead after just seven minutes and set the scene for a commanding victory against RB coach Saban Uzun's team.
After the break, Marta Casalla Garcia (58') increased the lead to 2-0 and ensured an early lead for the third-placed team in the league, who have only won one of their previous four home games. Franziska Harsch (90.+5) then ensured the final score in stoppage time. Leipzig will have a quick chance of revenge on December 17 (2 p.m./Magentasport), when both teams will once again battle for points in the Bundesliga in Sinsheim.
Despite their best efforts, RB Leipzig's women's soccer team failed to advance in the Women's DFB Cup, suffering a 3-0 defeat at the hands of TSG 1899 Hoffenheim's women's team. Regrettably, RB Leipzig's women have yet to secure a victory in a cup competition this season.
