Leipzig, a Bundesliga team, has confirmed a significant development and averted the likely exit of striker Benjamin Sesko ahead of the start of the European Championship. The Slovenian national player lengthened his deal, initially scheduled to end in 2028, by a year, as the Saxons declared on Wednesday. The 21-year-old, who is believed to be on the radar of various international top clubs, declined to trigger an exit clause worth over 65 million euros, according to dpa information. His wages are reported to have increased substantially as a result.

"Benjamin is one of our essential players for the forthcoming seasons, and that's why the extension is a firm statement," stated Sport Director Rouven Schröder. "This also illustrates our ambitions to remain at the pinnacle of the Bundesliga and be part of the leading clubs in Europe. With the new contract, we can continue to shape our team strategy efficiently."

Based on press reports, English Premier League clubs Arsenal, Manchester United, and Liverpool, along with league rivals Borussia Dortmund, were rumored to be interested in the technically proficient and 1.95-meter tall striker.

"Team, club, city, fans - the overall package is simply extraordinary for me. The early contract extension is consequently the logical move for me," said Sesko, who netted 18 goals and assisted two more in his inaugural season for Leipzig in 42 games across all competitions: "I truly relish playing forward with this team. However, there's still lots more to accomplish, and that's now our shared mission."

EM participant Sesko won a starting spot in Leipzig in the second half of the season and netted 14 goals in 31 Bundesliga games. At the European Championship, which starts on Friday, Sesko will represent Slovenia against England, Denmark, and Serbia.
