- RB Leipzig draws in the last test against PSG
RB Leipzig missed out on a prestigious win in their final pre-season test ahead of the new football season. They drew 1:1 (1:0) against Paris Saint-Germain's star-studded lineup. Lois Openda (13') gave the hosts an early lead, which Goncalo Ramos (70') equalized. Leipzig will kick off their new season with a DFB-Pokal match against Rot-Weiss Essen next Saturday.
RB coach Marco Rose fielded Xavi Simons, who was loaned back to Leipzig from PSG just last Monday, and David Raum, who had only recently returned to training with the German national team. Leipzig had to do without injured players Christoph Baumgartner, Xaver Schlager, new signing Assan Quedraogo, El Chadaille Bitshiabu, and Olympic silver medalist Castello Lukeba. PSG traveled without 14 players from their squad, but new signing Willian Pacho, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt, started.
Summer football in the first half
Both teams played more like summer football in the first half, with the guests being the more active side. However, the hosts took the lead when PSG failed to clear a Leipzig corner, allowing Openda to finish clinically. The guests pushed for an equalizer, but former Frankfurt player Randal Kolo Muani missed two good chances (29', 33'). Leipzig only threatened PSG's goal once more through Simons (34'), but Donnarumma saved with his feet.
Few Leipzig attacks after the break
After the break, new Leipzig signing Maarten Vandevoordt made a good save to deny Kang-in Lee (53'). Nuno Mendes (66') also came close to equalizing, but Ramos eventually scored a deserved equalizer from 16 meters. Leipzig created few offensive chances in the second half, partly due to numerous substitutions.
Leipzig's coach, Marco Rose, decided to include Xavi Simons and David Raum in the starting lineup, both being German-bound players from PSG and the national team, respectively. Despite missing several key players, RB Leipzig's match against Paris Saint-Germain in their final pre-season test was scheduled to take place in Germany.
