Football match - RB goalkeeper Peter Gulacsi signs new deal lasting until June 2026.
The future of Peter Gulacsi as a goalkeeper at Leipzig soccer club has been secured with the signing of a new contract. The deal will keep Gulacsi at the club until June 2026, an extension from his previous contract that was set to expire in 2021. In a statement, Leipzig sports director Rouven Schröder expressed his relief at making a decision on the goalkeeper position prior to the start of the European Championship: "We've achieved clarity on the goalkeeper position which was one of our top priorities. The extension of Peter Gulacsi's contract came after discussing the matter openly with all parties involved."
The 34-year-old rejoined Leipzig back in 2015 and has since played 302 official matches for the club. He is visibly excited about the prospect of extending his stay, saying: "It has been an amazing journey being part of Leipzig. The club and the people have shared some memorable moments with me, be it our DFB Cup wins or rough patches. I wanted to remain a part of this family and continue playing for Leipzig."
The Hungarian international is set to serenade the Leipzig fans again this year, as he is due to play for the national team in the European Championship. There is also clarity on who'll be taking his place in the future, as Janis Blaswich's departure has been confirmed. Leipzig has already signed Maarten Vandervoort from RC Genk, who will be joining the club in the summer. Blaswich was a temporary replacement for Gulacsi during his cruciate ligament injuries, and he managed to make it into the squad for the national team under coach Julian Nagelsmann.
