Ramelow: Up to 1000 trainees from Vietnam in Thuringia in the future

In future, up to 1,000 young people from Vietnam are to take up vocational training in Thuringia every year. "It is my goal that we achieve this step by step," said Minister President Bodo Ramelow (Left Party) on Friday at the end of a week-long trip to Vietnam together with a delegation from Thuringia.

Ramelow described the trip as a success after talks with government representatives and contracts with institutions from Vietnam. "There are good and functioning connections." Agreements for the training of 80 young people had been concluded.

In addition to the trainee project, skilled workers in the Southeast Asian country are also to be prepared for work in Thuringia. Ramelow mentioned food technicians and nurses in particular.

In Thuringia, 776 young people from Vietnam are already undergoing training - including at the training center of the hotel and restaurant association. People from Vietnam and their families have been living in many Thuringian towns and communities for decades in some cases - Ramelow spoke of around 4000 in Thuringia. Some of them had been brought from the GDR to work before 1989.

The expansion of the vocational training program in Thuringia could significantly impact the local labor market, providing opportunities for up to 1,000 Vietnamese trainees annually. To further strengthen the connection between Thuringia and Vietnam, there are plans to prepare skilled workers from Southeast Asia for employment in sectors like food technology and nursing.
