Postal voting documents for the European elections are on a table. On June 9, 2024, millions of people in Germany will be able to have their say on how the European Union should move forward.

Making a Decision - Ramelow: Thuringia relies on Europe

Thuringia partially relies on the European Union for its economic success, according to Minister President Bodo Ramelow from the Left Party. Speaking to the German Press Agency in Erfurt prior to the European election on June 9th, Ramelow stressed, "Thuringia is reliant on Europe." Despite making up just 0.4% of the EU's population, the state has been among the regions receiving the highest level of funding for years. Ramelow added, "We'll receive more support than average."

Over the course of 2021 to 2027, approximately 1.1 billion euros will filter from the European Regional Fund into Thuringia. Additionally, significant funds lie within the multimillion euro range for social and rural area initiatives.

If the Thuringian AfD leader, Björn Höcke, wishes for the EU's demise, it would consequently hinder Thuringia's development, Ramelow explained. This isn't merely due to the disappearance of substantial EU funding for myriad projects in the state, but also economic development as well.
