- Ramelow steps in once more to challenge the power line plan.
Thuringia's Minister-President Bodo Ramelow (from the Left Party) has once more engaged with the Federal Network Agency regarding the potential pathway of a new power line in southern Thuringia. A letter acquired by dpa reveals Ramelow inquiring why the agency isn't focusing on enhancing the network rather than expanding it in the P540 line, aimed at supplying Bavaria. The earliest report on this matter came from MDR Thuringia.
The power lines constructed in Thuringia fairly recently can handle a greater capacity than Bavaria is presently utilizing. Ramelow pointed out on Tuesday via the short messaging service X that this is a "financial scandal" as the Thuringian line, capable of twice the transmission capacity, might be utilized only half due to Bavaria's insufficient capacity. He added that Bavaria is essentially evading responsibility. Instead of a fresh construction, extending the existing 380-kV line would suffice, as suggested by the Thuringian Left Party over X.
Burgenmuseum Possibly Affected?
Ramelow's letter to the Federal Network Agency, penned just before the state election, raised concerns about the "lack of transparency" in Thuringia's procedures and handling. The attached document was a heritage conservation assessment by the Thuringian Castle Foundation and Gardens scrutinizing the effect of a power line route in southern Thuringia on the "Veste Heldburg" located in the Hildburghausen district, home to the German Castle Museum. Ramelow concluded the letter by stating that the P540 project shouldn't be incorporated into the Federal Requirements Plan Act until these deliberations are finalized.
Discussions revolve around a power line in the Heldburger Unterland district of Hildburghausen leading to a future transformer station in Münnerstadt, Franconia, meant to supply Bavaria.
South Thuringia's potential power line expansion has sparked concerns from Thuringia's Minister-President Bodo Ramelow, who believes the existing lines can handle more capacity than Bavaria currently uses. Ramelow also highlighted the potential impact on the Burgenmuseum in Hildburghausen, as a heritage conservation assessment by the Thuringian Castle Foundation revealed potential effects on the Veste Heldburg.
