Ramelow endures agonizing deliveries of arm-related items.

In his stance regarding the Ukraine conflict, Bodo Ramelow has sparked dissent within The Left. He advocates against supplying arms, he stated. Yet, a state under threat should also have the capacity to safeguard itself.

Bodo Ramelow will continue serving as the Minister President in Thuringia, despite his Left Party experiencing low support in the latest surveys.

Thuringia's leader and top candidate for the Left party, Bodo Ramelow, is not fond of weapons distributions. He pushes for a newer European peace arrangement. "Initially, I'm against any sort of weapons distribution. I'd prefer to see that in our Constitution, that under no circumstances should weapons be shipped from Germany," Ramelow shared in ZDF's morning magazine.

The idea of crafting peace with fewer weapons still resonates with him, the 68-year-old highlighted. Yet, he also recognized Putin's harsh treatment of neighboring nations. "We need a 'different European peace order'," he stated. Ramelow reminded that in 2022, when Russia attacked Ukraine, he was still leading the Bundesrat. "As a result, I unequivocally declared: A state that's under attack should be able to defend itself."

Upcoming elections for the Thuringian state parliament are scheduled for September 1st. Currently, Ramelow's Left party is languishing in fourth place in polls - trailing behind AfD, CDU, and BSW.

Despite his opposition to weapon distribution, Bodo Ramelow acknowledged the necessity for a defenseless state to protect itself during an attack, a reference made during Russia's attack on Ukraine in 2022. The upcoming Election to the Landtag in Thuringia on September 1st will test Ramelow's party's stance, as they currently trail behind their competitors in polls.
