Rally in front of Bremen Airbus plant on arms policy

IG Metall is expecting around 500 to 600 people to attend a rally today in front of the Airbus plant in Bremen. Bremen's mayor Andreas Bovenschulte (SPD) has been announced as a guest speaker. The union accuses the German government of increasingly buying military aircraft and helicopters from the United States. However, the government does not guarantee production, maintenance and further development at German locations. Representatives of the defense and space division Airbus Defence and Space supported the union's concerns, said a spokesperson for IG Metall.

The fuselage of the A400M transport aircraft is manufactured at Airbus in Bremen. The union warns against phasing out production without follow-up projects.

Trade unions, such as IG Metall, are expressing concerns about the potential impact of strikes on the company, as they fear that the government's increasing reliance on foreign military aircraft suppliers like the United States may lead to a reduction in production at German plants like Airbus. The union is particularly concerned about the A400M transport aircraft, which is manufactured at Airbus in Bremen, and has called for follow-up projects to ensure continued production.
