Rally against anti-Semitism at Humboldt University Berlin
Numerous people demonstrated for the safety of Jewish students at the Humboldt University in Berlin. The rally on Friday morning was attended by Federal Education Minister Bettina Stark-Watzinger (FDP), Jewish pianist Igor Levit and Federal Green Party Chairwoman Ricarda Lang, among others, according to the Fridays For Israel (FFI) initiative. At its peak, the police counted around 120 participants. No incidents were reported.
"It is important to fight anti-Semitism, no matter where it occurs. Against all anti-Semitism. Whether Muslim, from the left or the right or from the center of society," said Lang at the rally.
According to the initiative, it is committed to Israel's right to exist and solidarity with Jewish people. It believes that universities in particular have a duty to take action against anti-Semitism. Fridays For Israel is independent of the Fridays for Future climate movement - based on the similarity in the name, said a spokesperson.
The rally against anti-Semitism at Humboldt University Berlin highlighted the ongoing conflicts related to this issue. Despite the peaceful demonstration, there were concerns about potential conflicts arising from opposing viewpoints.
