Rain returns to the southwest

The weather is becoming more uncomfortable again in Baden-Württemberg. In the Black Forest and the Swabian Alb, meteorologists from the German Weather Service are expecting rain again on Thursday. According to the forecast, there will be gusts of up to 90 kilometers per hour in the Feldberg area, which could then increase to 130 kilometers per hour. In the night to Friday, there could be snow in the high altitudes from around 700 meters.

Temperatures of between 7 and 12 degrees are still expected on Thursday. Friday will be much colder: according to the forecast, it will only be 3 to 9 degrees.

The flood situation had eased after the rainfall of the past few days in Baden-Württemberg. As expected, the critical level of 7.50 meters was reached and slightly exceeded at the Maxau gauge on the Rhine on Wednesday afternoon. The value is a signal for ships to stop sailing on the relevant section of the Rhine near Karlsruhe. The water level is already dropping again. The Upper Rhine Waterways and Shipping Office expected the level to fall below the critical mark again on Thursday evening. Navigation could then resume.

The impending storm might pose challenges for shipping on the Rhine, given its expected gusts of up to 130 kilometers per hour. Despite the upcoming weather changes, the Upper Rhine Waterways and Shipping Office anticipates resuming navigation once the water level drops below the critical mark.
