Railroad equipment supplier Funkwerk expands production
Thuringian railroad equipment supplier Funkwerk has invested in its site in Kölleda. Almost ten million euros have been invested, said Kerstin Schreiber, member of the Executive Board of Funkwerk AG, on Thursday. The production of train radio technology and information systems for passengers at railroad stations has been expanded. An administration building has also been built.
The company is thus responding to the demand from railroad companies for radio technology for their trains and the trend towards digitalization. "Demand has grown significantly over the past five years," said Schreiber.
According to her, the company's investment project was funded by the state of Thuringia to the tune of 1.6 million euros. The company employs more than 250 people in Kölleda, as well as trainees. The Funkwerk Group employs just under 700 people.
Funkwerk's investment in its Kölleda site also includes the development of information technology solutions for railroads, leveraging its expertise in train radio technology. The growing demand for digitalization in the railroad industry has provided an opportunity for Funkwerk to expand its offerings in this area.
