Wage dispute - Rail warning strike: massive restrictions expected
The warning strike announced by the train drivers' union GDL will bring long-distance and regional services in the north and S-Bahn services in Hamburg to a virtual standstill on Friday. "There will be massive restrictions on S-Bahn services," writes S-Bahn Hamburg on its website. According to the statement, services were to be suspended from around 10 p.m. on Thursday evening. On Friday, the S-Bahn wanted to try to offer journeys on lines S1, S21 and S3 according to an emergency timetable. However, the timetables would only be available at short notice due to the unclear situation. Even after the official end of the strike on Friday evening, there will still be cancellations.
The Hamburg Transport Association (HVV) is also expecting major disruptions to regional services. The AKN will also be affected by the warning strike. "There will be no AKN trains during the strike. No rail replacement services will be set up to cover the disruptions," AKN states. "Resumption of service: first journeys after the end of the strike on 09.12.2023."
The HVV's recommendation: "Passengers are asked to use subway trains and buses if possible." Metronom and Erixx trains will continue to run, but restrictions must be expected.
Deutsche Bahn also expects considerable restrictions for Schleswig-Holstein. There is an emergency timetable. If trains are running, they will be longer and have more seats. Nevertheless, travel cannot be guaranteed, the railroad writes on its website. Passengers who postpone their journey due to the strike can use their ticket at a later date. The train reservation is canceled.
"All connections in the emergency timetable are now available in the information media on bahn.de and in the DB Navigator app," the company announced. In addition, Deutsche Bahn has once again set up a strike hotline. Passengers affected can call 08000-996633 to find out about their connections. The emergency timetable ensures "only a very limited train service", according to bahn.de. "Please refrain from unnecessary travel during the GDL strike and postpone your journey to another time."
The German Train Drivers' Union (GDL) called a 24-hour warning strike at Deutsche Bahn at short notice on Wednesday. The strike in passenger transport was to begin on Thursday evening at 10 p.m. and last until Friday evening at 10 p.m.
