Traffic - Rail traffic in Bavaria still restricted after snow chaos

Following the severe onset of winter, Deutsche Bahn resumed some long-distance services at Munich Central Station on Sunday. Passengers should still expect major restrictions on Monday, a spokeswoman said.

Operations at Munich Central Station initially started for the Munich - Nuremberg and Munich - Stuttgart routes, in both directions. However, there were fewer trains on the way, and a ride could not be guaranteed. In addition, there could still be cancellations at short notice.

Trains were also largely canceled on Monday, especially south of the state capital, the railroad announced. This affects the Werdenfelsbahn on the route between Munich, Weilheim and the Garmisch area; trains will also not be able to run between Munich and Salzburg/Innsbruck and between Munich and Lindau/Oberstdorf, it said. There will be no train services on the Ulm diesel network, on the Danube-Isar Express (RE3), between Freising and Landshut (RB33) and on the Buchloe suburban service (RB74).

Due to the large number of affected routes, it is not possible to provide a reliable replacement service by bus. Passengers should also find out about the status of their respective connection before starting their journey and postpone any train journeys that are not necessary until Tuesday or later, said the spokeswoman.

Heavy snowfall on Saturday night had largely paralyzed rail traffic in large parts of southern Germany. Trains covered in snow were unable to start, trees that had collapsed under the weight of the snow blocked tracks and overhead lines were covered in ice.
