Railroad - Rail operator Go-Ahead slaps down DB Netz
The Austrian railroad subsidiary Go-Ahead has criticized the German railroad subsidiary DB Netz unusually harshly. DB Netz is overstretched. Construction work on the "dilapidated infrastructure" is poorly planned, poorly coordinated and announced too late, Go-Ahead criticized on Thursday. Go-Ahead must apologize for delays and train cancellations for which DB Netz is responsible, said Managing Director Fabian Amini. He expects DB Netz to keep its promises, to take responsibility for any damage caused and to "publicly apologize" to passengers and employees.
Go-Ahead has been operating regional train services on DB Netz tracks in Baden-Württemberg since 2019 and in Bavaria since 2021. In October, ÖBB took over the southern German regional train operator from the British Go-Ahead Group.
The rail operator criticized "the daily disruptions to signalling systems, points, level crossings, signal boxes and overhead line systems", the construction planning at Stuttgart's main station, congested access routes and unplanned waiting times on single-track sections. In the Augsburg network, Go-Ahead is "now operating in construction site mode for 10 months, with constantly changing changes", said Amini. For the Augsburg - Donauwörth route, Go-Ahead only found out on Tuesday which timetable could be operated from next Tuesday until the end of the year. "Passengers are angry - and quite rightly so."

Go-Ahead's operations on DB Netz tracks in Bavaria and Baden-Württemberg have been significantly impacted by the poor condition of the infrastructure, leading to frequent disruptions and delays. Despite operating in Augsburg's network for 10 months with constant changes, Go-Ahead only recently learned the timetable for the Augsburg - Donauwörth route for the remainder of the year.
The criticism towards DB Netz by Go-Ahead extends beyond Bavaria, as the rail operator has also criticized the handling of construction work in Bavaria's neighboring state, Bavaria. Specifically, Go-Ahead has pointed out issues with the railroad system in the city of Augsburg, where they have been operating since 2021.
