State Office of Criminal Investigation - Raids against hate crime in Hesse

As part of a day of action against hate crime, Hessian law enforcement authorities have taken action against a total of five suspects. As the State Criminal Police Office (LKA) announced in Wiesbaden on Friday, the suspects were 20 to 59-year-old suspected authors of hate postings from southern Hesse and south-eastern Hesse.

According to the authorities, four of the searches took place in Frankfurt am Main, in the Main-Kinzig district and in the Bergstrasse and Darmstadt-Dieburg districts. One of the five search warrants could not be executed. The five men are suspected of using symbols of unconstitutional and terrorist organizations, incitement of the people and condoning criminal acts, among other things.

According to the information provided, the basis for the raids included data from the state government's "HessenGegenHetze" reporting office. A total of 35,800 reports were received there between 2020 and 2023. According to the LKA, the program "contributes to combating and prosecuting hate crime online across society as a whole".

The campaign was coordinated throughout Germany by the Federal Criminal Police Office (BKA). In total, German law enforcement authorities carried out more than 120 police measures. In addition to Germany, France, Austria, Romania, Slovakia and Spain also took part.
