Drug trafficking - Raid in Frankfurt city center

The police have taken action against suspected drug dealers in the Frankfurt city center. According to a police spokesperson speaking to the German Press Agency, around 16 people were searched in a raid at the Konstablerwache.

The suspects were lined up against the wall and searched one by one. The focus was on searching for drugs, weapons, stolen goods, and checking residence permits, according to the police.

Among other things, hashish and marijuana were found, "but in quantities that are now permitted," the spokesperson said. Two packets that may have contained narcotics and a stolen phone were also secured. In addition, officers arrested a man for whom there was an arrest warrant and issued several citations.

Cannabis consumption is not allowed in pedestrian zones according to the new Cannabis Law between 7 pm and 10 pm.

Complaints from residents

The reason for the operation was "massive complaints" from residents and business owners in the area. "People are being dealt with and harassed here," the spokesperson said. According to the spokesperson, police forces in the mid-hundreds were in use at the Konstablerwache alone.

Simultaneously, other measures were taking place in Frankfurt city center, including checks at specific locations in Frankfurt throughout the evening.
