Raid against illegal employment in the Mönchengladbach area
Customs investigators have carried out a raid to investigate suspected illegal employment in Mönchengladbach and several locations in the Rhine district of Neuss. At least 210 employees from customs, the tax investigation department and the state police took part in the operation on Tuesday, said a customs spokesman in Mönchengladbach. The investigation was directed against two managing directors of a company on suspicion of tax and social security evasion. They are said to have employed at least 80 illegal workers from non-EU Eastern European countries in industrial services.
Among other things, the customs investigators had a mobile document checking device with them to quickly detect forged IDs. A SEK-like special unit from the Cologne Customs Criminal Investigation Office was also deployed. In addition to Mönchengladbach, Grevenbroich, Korschenbroich, Jüchen, Meerbusch and Bergheim were also involved. According to the spokesperson, no arrest warrants were issued. The raid was carried out on behalf of the Mönchengladbach public prosecutor's office.
The raid against illegal employment in Mönchengladbach and neighboring areas highlighted the seriousness of crime in the region, potentially leading to increased scrutiny in related social affairs. Despite the large-scale operation, no arrest warrants were issued, indicating that further investigation and legal proceedings are necessary in this work of upholding tax and social security laws.
