Quincy Jones, a renowned American music producer, and Caterina Juliet Taylor, a legendary casting director, are to receive special recognition at the upcoming Academy Awards. Furthermore, acclaimed film producers and Bond movie creators Barbara Broccoli and Michael G. Wilson, as well as screenwriter Richard Curtis, will be awarded honorary Oscars by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

This prestigious event, titled "Governors Awards," is normally held once a year in Beverly Hills and features no competition, as the recipients are selected by the Academy's board based on their contribution to film and society. The ceremony is set to take place on November 17 in Los Angeles.

At 91 years old, Jones has made history with his achievements in the music industry. He's known for composing film scores ("In the Heat of the Night", "The Color Purple"), producing movies, and developing television series. In 1982, he played a significant role in the success of Michael Jackson's famous album "Thriller." The Academy recognized him as a "creative genius."

Taylor, a seasoned casting director, has assembled the casts for over a hundred films, including "The Neurotic City," "Blue Jasmine," "Taxi Driver," "Sleepless in Seattle," and "Schindler's List." Her impressive track record spans over 50 years, and she's worked with some of the most prestigious directors like Nora Ephron, Woody Allen, Martin Scorsese, and Steven Spielberg.

Barbara Broccoli, a 65-year-old film producer along with her half-brother Michael G. Wilson, aged 82, are well-known for their successful work on the James Bond film series. They will receive the "Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award," which is given to producers whose work exemplifies consistent high quality. This award bears the name of Irving G. Thalberg, a former head of MGM studios.

Screenwriter Richard Curtis, famous for movies like "Four Weddings and a Funeral," "Notting Hill," and "Bridget Jones - Chocolate for Breakfast," will be given the Jean Hersholt Award. This honor, named after Danish-American actor and philanthropist Jean Hersholt, is a rare award, reserved for individuals who have shown exceptional commitment to their respective fields.

At the previous Governors Awards in January, Mel Brooks, a legendary comedian known for movies like "The Wild Wild West," and actress Angela Bassett, known for her role in "Tina - What's Love Got To Do With It?," were also presented with honorary Oscars. Moreover, Michelle Satter from the Sundance Institute was celebrated with the Jean Hersholt Award for her support of independent cinema.
