Despite the heavy snowfall in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern, the police reported unusually smooth traffic conditions on Monday night. The persistent frost and slippery roads in these regions had led to a significant reduction in traffic, as noted by the police spokespersons from these three states.
The continuous frosty weather in these areas, with temperatures as low as minus seven degrees, had resulted in numerous road accidents, according to the local police. Over the week, the police in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern had dealt with numerous reports of accidents due to the adverse weather conditions.
To ensure safety on the roads during the winter season, the police in these regions advised drivers to drive carefully and slowly, maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles. Caution was particularly advised in the foggy conditions, especially along the autobahn, where heavy traffic might increase the risk of accidents.
The police had also called for drivers to be well-prepared while traveling during the winter, with equipment such as snow chains and winter tires in their vehicle. Proper preparation could significantly reduce the risks associated with harsh winter weather conditions, such as severe snowfall and icy roads.
The police issued warnings against traveling on the roads in certain areas when advised by the authorities, to ensure that the roads remained safe for all drivers, regardless of the harsh winter weather in Hamburg, Schleswig-Holstein, and Mecklenburg-Vorpommern.
