One-Pot Dishes are Always a Great Idea

They're prepared in a jiffy, cook themselves, and cause minimal cleanup. Plus, thanks to their long cooking time, they're often especially flavorful.

As the name suggests, all the ingredients for one-pot dishes go into one pot or dish and are cooked or baked together. In the end, it's just a matter of seasoning and enjoying. The advantage: while the dish simmers on the stove or in the oven, you have plenty of time to do other things – or simply relax on the couch and look forward to the meal.

One-Pot Recipes Save Time, Effort, and Cleanup

How about trying a delicious one-pot potato gratin next time? The preparation of this creamy oven dish takes a maximum of 15 minutes, then everything goes into the oven and bakes happily. In its original form, the recipe requires only five ingredients that are usually found in every household: besides potatoes, cream, milk, grated cheese, and spices go into the dish. If you're looking for variety or your fridge has more to offer, don't hesitate to give the potato gratin a little twist.

Any type of vegetable is perfect for adding under the potato slices before baking. Particularly tasty are leeks, leeks, finely grated zucchini, and/or mushrooms. For meat-eaters, fried ground meat, bacon cubes, or chicken strips add plenty of zest to the gratin; vegetarians and vegans can opt for tofu and meat alternatives. Also great: experimenting with different spices to make the one-pot dish more varied. Below, you'll find some suggestions for designing your gratin.

Tip: Use firm potatoes whenever possible. They become beautifully soft when baked but still retain their bite.
