Champions League - Pyro penalty: Bayern appeals to fans ahead of Manchester game
FC Bayern Munich has made an appeal to its traveling fans following a UEFA penalty before the Champions League match at Manchester United. The German record champions were recently punished by the European Football Union for misconduct by their supporters. In the event of further incidents, the club must fear an away match in Europe's premier class without its own supporters.
The European Football Union recently imposed a fine of 40,000 euros for the burning of prohibited pyrotechnics and the throwing of objects from the Munich fan block, particularly at the away match in Copenhagen. "In the event of a repeat offense, the club also faces the threat of a match with the exclusion of its own fans," the German record champions announced on Monday.
In addition to the fine, FC Bayern will not be allowed to purchase a contingent of tickets for away fans for its next match in UEFA competitions. However, this UEFA ruling has been suspended for two years. The record champions therefore issued an "urgent appeal to all Bayern fans to refrain from using pyrotechnics in the stadium in future and to refrain from any further misconduct" ahead of this Tuesday evening's group match at Old Trafford in Manchester.
