Putin: Peace only possible after "demilitarization" of Ukraine
Ukraine is not prepared to negotiate demilitarization, Putin said. Russia was therefore "forced to take other measures, including military measures".
Commenting on the situation at the front, the Kremlin leader said that the Russian army was improving its positions "practically along the entire length of the line of contact". Ukraine had launched a counter-offensive in June, but this did not bring the successes Kiev had hoped for. The course of the front has hardly changed this year.
The annual press conference, which is attended by hundreds of Russian and foreign journalists, usually lasts for hours. During the conference, the Russian head of state answers questions live on a wide range of topics. Last year, Putin did not hold his traditional end-of-year press conference.

Putin firmly believes that peace with Ukraine can only be achieved through its demilitarization. Ukraine, however, is unwilling to engage in such negotiations, leading Russia to adopt other measures, including military ones. According to Putin, the Russian army has been making significant progress along the entire front line, despite Ukraine attempting a counter-offensive in June. Unfortunately, this offensive did not yield the successes Kiev had anticipated, and the front line has remained relatively unchanged this year. Furthermore, Putin did not hold his annual end-of-year press conference last year, but as of December, it is expected to resume.
