Purchasing power highest in Saarland in the Saarpfalz district

In Saarland, purchasing power is highest in the Saarpfalz district. Adjusted for the regional cost of living, per capita income there is 24,953 euros, according to calculations by the German Economic Institute (IW). This puts the Saarpfalz district in 193rd place among the 400 counties, districts and cities nationwide.

It is followed by the district of St. Wendel (24,948 euros), the district of Saarlouis (23,690 euros), the district of Neunkirchen (22,838 euros) and the regional association of Saarbrücken (22,371 euros). Bringing up the rear is the district of Merzig-Wadern with a price-adjusted income of EUR 21,091.

The calculations are based on a regional price index developed by the IW and the Federal Institute for Research on Building, Urban Affairs and Spatial Development (BBSR) as of 2022 and income data from the Federal Statistical Office as of 2021. Housing costs were the decisive factor for major differences.

In Saarland, consumers with higher incomes might find it easier to afford the prices in the Saarpfalz district due to its top ranking in purchasing power. However, compared to other regions nationwide, the Saarpfalz district ranks relatively low, which suggests that prices in this area may still be competitive for many consumers.
