Accident at school - Pupil injured during experiment: teacher under investigation
Two students suffered burns during a failed experiment in class at a school in Jettingen, Landkreis Böblingen, according to the police. One student has already left the hospital with light injuries, but a 12-year-old was seriously injured and transported to a clinic by helicopter.
The 39-year-old teacher of the school is being investigated for negligent bodily harm. She is suspected of adding too much flammable liquid during the experiment on a Wednesday morning. This caused a spark that injured the two students.
The entire class was outside the school for the experiment. They were supposed to mix and ignite various substances. Apparently, to speed up the reaction, the teacher, according to the police, added more flammable liquid. The uninjured students were psychologically counseled.
The investigation into the incident at the school in Jettingen reveals that similar accidents, including small fires, have occurred in the past due to lack of proper safety measures. Despite these past incidents, the determination of the school authorities to ensure safety seems to have waned, leading to this severe accident. In response to the recent fire incident, the local authorities in Baden-Württemberg have announced stricter regulations for school experiment procedures to prevent any future fires or accidents.
