- "Pumuckl" and "Bedtime Stories" author Hatry passes away
Millions of kids born in the '80s West Germany grew up with his TV shows: The late Michael Hatry, renowned for penning scripts for series like "Meister Eder and His Pumuckl" (1982-1989) and "Bettkantengeschichten" (1983-1990), is no more.
Sadly, his demise was recently made public. He breathed his last in July, aged 83, as revealed by his brother to the German Press Agency, Berlin.
Apart from being a theatrical dramaturg and director, Hatry also penned radio plays for West German Broadcasting Corporation and Free Berlin Station. His career saw a shift towards children's content in 1981. Consequently, numerous children's books flooded the market from 1981 to 2016.
However, Hatry didn't restrict himself to children's content. He was a part of the scriptwriting for the "Tatort" crime drama "Schwarzes Wochenende," directed by Dominik Graf, in which Götz George played the role of Duisburger TV commissioner Horst Schimanski in 1986.
Many individuals who grew up watching his shows during the 1980s have fond memories of Hatry's work. His popular series "Meister Eder and His Pumuckl" and "Bettkantengeschichten" were staples on German television in the '80s.
