Oldenburg - Public prosecutor's office closes investigation against doctor
The public prosecutor's office has closed an investigation against a doctor for alleged treatment errors at the Evangelical Hospital in Oldenburg. Following two criminal complaints at the beginning of November, the authorities had opened an investigation on suspicion of negligent homicide. As a result, the confiscated patient files were evaluated by a medical expert, as a spokesperson for the Oldenburg public prosecutor's office announced on request on Thursday. According to the statement, the expert's examination "did not reveal any evidence of medical misconduct". Several media outlets had previously reported this.
Two criminal complaints, one of which was anonymous, had set the proceedings in motion. According to the public prosecutor's office, the doctor was accused of causing the death of two patients through "improper treatment". The hospital management denied the allegations after they came to light.
An appeal can be lodged against the discontinuation of the proceedings. The public prosecutor's office has not yet received an appeal.
