The attorney representing Brenda Patea, a female friend and co-defendant of Alexander Zverev, German tennis star, claims his client is being emotionally and psychologically pushed to her breaking point in the legal battle over an allegation of assault. During his statement to the media on Friday, following the first day of the trial at the Berlin Tiergarten District Court, Michael Nitschke reportedly stated that the defense team for Zverev is determined to "wear down, ruin, and psychologically pressure" Patea.

According to Nitschke, the defense's motive is to "undermine her credibility" and dismiss the notion that Patea is motivated by monetary gain. He also clarified that, contrary to some assumptions, she is determined and holding up well. However, Nitschke asserted that the financial strain caused by a prolonged trial would eventually take its toll on her.

The court proceedings are concerned with an accusation that Zverev pushed Patea against a wall in the hallway of their rented Airbnb apartment in Berlin during a heated argument in May 2020. A penalty order was enforced against Zverev, resulting in a €450,000 fine for the assault, without engaging in a trial. This, in turn, initiated the current trial at the Berlin Tiergarten District Court. Zverev was not present in court on Friday, as he was taking part in the French Open competition in Paris.
