The destination: Travemünde. - Protests occurring near the gathering of Health Ministers.
Hundreds of care professionals from across Germany gathered for a protest on Wednesday, coinciding with the Health Ministers' Conference in Travemünde. The demonstration was also attended by students and patient advocacy groups. As per the union Verdi, the key issue at hand is not about the best possible care, but rather economic efficiency and profit generation. Addressing the protesters, Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) promised to reinforce the nursing profession.
General practitioner Astrid Ewald from Büsum near the North Sea voiced her concerns, stating that the proposed reforms would not result in increased quality. "Since the overall budget for all practices remains the same, we'll have to manage more patients in the same time frame. I can't see where this supposed improvement will come from." The Clinic Rescue alliance, comprising approximately 20 initiatives of clinic employees, also shared their doubts: "With Minister Lauterbach's hospital reform, hundreds of clinics will be shut down or downgraded across the country."
During this protest, the #NotHealed alliance set up a special photo exhibition, featuring pictures of long-Covid patients on the promenade. The alliance advocated for collaboration between general practitioners, specialists, and outpatient care providers.
