Protests against Green Ash Wednesday in Biberach result in legal action.
A man from Sigmaringen district is being accused of serious disruption of the peace, attempted grievous injury, property damage, and resisting arrest officers in a major incident, states a spokesperson in Ravensburg. It's the Biberach District Court that will decide on the admissibility of these charges and whether a main trial is to be held.
The prosecutor has referred four charges to the criminal court and four to the juvenile court. Furthermore, the prosecution asked for 28 indictments, such as for the offense of extortion. An indictment can sometimes replace a judgment for minor offenses. To date, investigations have been underway against 65 individuals who are allegedly involved, stated the spokesperson.
The events in Biberach have caused outrage and conversations about the escalating radicalization and coarsening of political disagreements across parties. The Greens had withdrawn their event due to the intense protests. Based on police reports, protesters had behaved violently and attacked law enforcement officers.
Some police officers sustained minor injuries, these reports added that stones had been used to damage the police vehicles. According to the interior minister of Baden-Württemberg, Thomas Strobl (CDU), farmers, members of the Reichsbürger, and Querdenker scene were part of the demonstrators in addition to this, as noted in February. The news of these charges was first published by the "Neue Osnabrücker Zeitung" on Monday.
