Prospector finds wedding ring of woman from Austria

An 81-year-old woman in Austria has been made happy by the discovery of a wedding ring in a field near Hohenlinden (Ebersberg district). The woman used to live in the village and lost the ring sometime after her marriage in 1964, reported the "Ebersberger Zeitung" of the Münchner Merkur tz media group on Wednesday. More than 50 years later, the prospector from the neighboring village of Forstinning saw the golden piece of jewelry flashing in the ground. With persistent research, the policeman finally tracked down the 81-year-old woman, who now lives in Pongau in the Austrian state of Salzburg.

According to the newspaper, the man from Forstinningen came across the woman via the wedding date, which was engraved in the ring with the name "Georg". The Hohenlindner registry office actually found the marriage of a Georg and an Anna in the archives on that day in April 1964. However, the bride at the time could no longer be traced. Thanks to a tip from his wife, the police officer finally found a family in Hohenlinden with the couple's surname and was able to clear everything up.

The bride had already become a widow in 1974, ten years after the wedding, had remarried and finally moved to Austria with her new husband and children, writes the newspaper, which also called the 81-year-old. According to the report, the woman said on the phone that she couldn't believe how lucky she was.

The discoverer was surprised by the colorful engraving on the woman's lost wedding ring, featuring her name and the date of their family union. Despite moving away with her new family, the sight of the curio brought back memories of her early days with her original family in Austria.
