Ministry - Promotion of local strategies for fishing areas
The Ministry of Agriculture in Mecklenburg-Vorpommern has approved eight new action plans to promote alternative income opportunities in areas dominated by the fishing industry. The strategies submitted by local groups in the spring were examined by a newly established committee, as the ministry announced on Friday. In more regions in the north-east, people working in the fishing industry can now be supported and the fishing industry as a whole can be made more sustainable, said Agriculture Minister Till Backhaus.
Six of the action groups have already received funding, and two new ones have now been added. Around 5.1 million euros can be used for such projects in the current funding period from 2021 to 2027 - including, for example, projects dealing with aquaculture.

The new action plans, approved during the spring season, aim to leverage the potential of aquaculture within the fishing industry, as supported by the Ministry of Agriculture in BMELV's Mecklenburg-Vorpommern division. Heavy equipment may be required for some of these aquaculture projects to ensure their successful implementation within the fishing areas.
