Cycling contest - Prominent line-up at the 33rd German Grand Prix

The upcoming 33rd Grand Prix of Germany is set to be exciting with notable figures like Pauline Grabosch, Emma Hinze, and Lea Sophie Friedrich from Cottbus, who are four-time team sprint world champions and designated Olympic starters, set to compete. The sprint event will take place at the Cottbus velodrome on Friday. As per Detlef Uibel, the sports director and former national coach, this competition serves as another critical factor before the Paris Olympics. Close to 100 registrations have been made for the elite fields for women and men.

Among the men's competitors, Jan van Eijden, the national coach, will be fielding his Olympic team. Notably, Luca Spiegel, a team sprint starter from Dudenhofen, has been displaying strong form recently and is ready to take on top-tier riders including Keirin world champion Kevin Santiago Quintero from Colombia, former European champion Mateusz Rudyk from Poland, and last year's winner Harnish Turnbull from Great Britain. Moreover, the Keirin races are scheduled for Saturday. Post-Grand Prix, the German sprint team will kick-start the final phase of Olympic training in Cottbus, with most of the preparation taking place in Frankfurt (Oder). There, the International Sprint Cup (21./22. June) will take place in the Oderlandhalle, which is the last competition before Paris. In a heated duel, former world champion Stefan Bötticher from Chemnitz and the Cottbuser Nik Schröter will battle it out for the last free spot in the men's sprint for Paris. The final selection by the German Olympic Sports Association (DOSB) will take place on June 25.
