The German Weather Service (DWD) anticipates heavy rainfall in Baden-Württemberg this weekend, with potential flooding near river areas. Warnings have been issued for the eastern part of the state, which is expected to be the most impacted by this weather pattern.

Specialists predict substantial and quick water level rises in affected waterways and tributaries, starting as early as Friday. While they can't specifically say when peak levels will occur, the heavy rain is expected to last for about two days.

DWD forecasts up to 100 liters of rain per square meter

For Friday, the DWD has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the entire eastern part of Baden-Württemberg. Torrential rain is expected to move into the region from the southeast and spread over large areas of the state. According to predictions from Friday morning, rainfall amounts between 50 and 80 liters per square meter are forecast in the coming days, with up to 100 liters per square meter possible in the Allgäu region.

On Thursday, the Seckenheim district of Mannheim experienced flash flooding in cellars and streets due to heavy rainfall. The fire department was called in to use pumps and water vacuums to help manage the situation.

On Thursday night, stronger rain is predicted. The DWD foresees the rain decreasing in intensity from Friday afternoon in the South Black Forest and Allgäu region, with possible isolated thunderstorms in North Baden to the Main-Tauber region. Moderate to fresh winds are expected, strengthening at times and becoming gusty.

On Saturday night, DWD anticipates multiple showers and individual thunderstorms. By Sunday, the sky is predicted to remain mostly cloudy, with more rainfall and occasional thunderstorms. From the northwest, a cooler wind is expected to blow. Temperatures will vary between 17 and 21 degrees Celsius. By Monday, the skies should clear up from the northwest.
