Projects from climate funds must continue to be financed

According to Schleswig-Holstein's Environment Minister Tobias Goldschmidt, economic projects associated with the Climate and Transformation Fund must continue to be financed. "With the Climate and Transformation Fund, Germany has made a promise to support the economy on its way to a CO2-free future," said the Green politician on Monday after consultations between the federal and state ministers for economic affairs and energy in Berlin.

According to Goldschmidt, breaking this promise would be fatal for the economy and the global climate. He therefore expects the federal government to quickly provide clarity and keep its promises: All projects that have already been approved must also be funded.

The Federal Constitutional Court had declared a reallocation of 60 billion euros in the 2021 budget to be unconstitutional. The federal government is therefore not allowed to use funds intended to combat the coronavirus crisis for climate protection. This could have a major impact on the Climate and Transformation Fund.

The fund is to be used, for example, to finance programs for more climate protection, for the establishment of future technologies and the development towards a climate-neutral economy.

The Climate and Transformation Fund heavily influences the Household sector's transition towards a low-carbon economy, as various household initiatives are financed through this fund. It's crucial for the economic policy to ensure the sustainability of these projects, considering their significant contribution to climate change mitigation.
